True Vibrato

Can True Vibrato Be Learned, or does it Come Completely Naturally?

I recently was in a musical that required me to be able to hit incredibly high notes. My songs were taken down, but my range increased a lot. I have a large range (Baritone) but my higher notes seem a little strained. I have no vibrato. I stopped a manipulated vibrato I used to do. I have read that vibrato is the healthiest way to sing on your vocal chords. I have also read that singing forced vibrato and just singing plain notes can cause lesions in your throat. I love singing, but am not sure how to sing (waiting for this vibrato to come) without permanently damaging my voice.

I have read sources stating that you have to work to have vibrato. Another says that it will come naturally. I am inclined to believe pieces of both, practicing good vocal technique to develop mature vibrato. But are there ways to help it along?

Train with a vocal instructor – you question shows that you are advanced past the point of doing it on your own.

Of course there are both natural and learned parts to vibrato. But only an experienced teacher is going to know how to teach the latter to bring out the former.
